Earthwatch, an international nonprofit organization founded in 1972, offers the public unique opportunities to work side-by-side with noted scientists on one-to-three week field research projects worldwide. These cultural and environmental research expeditions represent over twenty disciplines, and range from building solar ovens in Kenya to saving endangered sea turtles in the Caribbean. No special skills are necessary; all training is done in the field. Earthwatch expedition participants support the research and cover food and lodging with tax-deductible contributions ranging from $700 to $4,000. Airfare is additional. To date, over 65,000 people have worked on Earthwatch scientific research expeditions across the U.S. and around the world. [Description supplied by Earthwatch.]
